Augmented reality is a technology that allows the user to interact with an image, video or 3D environment. The use of this technology has been increasing with new applications being developed everyday. The use of augmented reality in street art is to allow non-intrusive street art to be viewed by the general public. By using augmented reality, street art can be invisible to it’s surounding. By scanning a QR code or by scanning a NFC tag, the general public can interact with street art using there smart phones. The street art can be viewed in an out door environment and only be viewed through a smart divice. The street art can be static or come to life in 3D.
AR has many benefits for the artist, viewer and city councilor alike. It allows artists to create images that would not be possible due to cost or location restrictions. It allows viewers to see their favorite artists work from anywhere in the world without having to travel there themselves. It allows cities to promote tourism and attract more people into their cities by simply allowing people from across the world view what they have created without physically being there themselves.”
